NCB Society Golf Challenge 2006
The third edition of the NCB Society Golf Challenge was held on Tuesday 4th July 2006 at the Ocean Course of the Ria Bintan Golf Club. The event was spearheaded by Yeo Khee Leng, NCB Society Exco Member, who also happens to be working with Bintan Resorts…no prizes in guessing why the event was held in Bintan.

Smooth transition through immigration and customs at Bandar Bintan Telani, as the ferry terminal there is called, saw the group arriving at the Clubhouse within half an hour with golf bags already on the buggies ready to go. The six flights teed off in a mini shot gun start (thanks to arrangements made by Khee Leng with the Club) so that we would start and end about the same time. The course presented a stout challenge to the golfers, although it is highly probable that some of the golfers were distracted by the beautiful scenery of the forests and the sea as they played from hole to hole, especially at the famous 8th and 9th holes

When the scores were tallied, Khee Leng emerged the Champion closely edging out Joey Chang on countback. Protests of “home course advantage” and the usual chants of “buaya” fell on deaf ears as he picked up an X Box 360 prize kindly donated by fellow NCB Society Exco Member Saw Ken Wye of Microsoft. Joey won a 2D1N golf package to play unlimited golf at Laguna Bintan with a friend – now is the time to call Joey to declare your friendship with him. Third was Past-President KC Lee who won two green fee vouchers to play at Ria Bintan – you can also call him. Angela Schooling came in fourth and won a brand new wedge kindly donated by KC Lee. KC was relieved that he came in ahead of Angel, otherwise he would be winning back the wedge that he had just given away

All in all, a great day for golf for the NCBians. Khee Leng agreed that he would organise some more golf in Bintan for NCB Society golfers and would try to do it on a quarterly basis. Look out for announcements on this website.
